About us

Welcome to VSDW, the Veterinary Student Association for Development and Wildlife. Founded in 2016, we are a student group affiliated with the University of Ghent, serving as a daughter association to the VDK groups.

Our journey began with the realization among students, during various trips to Africa and other regions of the Global South, of the pressing need for greater awareness and knowledge in veterinary medicine and agriculture within these areas. Thus, VSDW was established with the aim of addressing these needs.

Through a series of lectures and excursions, we seek to delve deeper into the realm of veterinary medicine not only in the Global South but also in our local community, including Belgium, and even in marine environments. Our focus extends beyond wildlife veterinary medicine to include comprehensive coverage of wildlife issues, encompassing various ecosystems and habitats.

In addition to our commitment to global veterinary initiatives and humanitarian efforts, we are proud to announce our partnership with Veterinarians Without Borders.

Furthermore, we serve as an information hub for individuals interested in wildlife conservation and veterinary medicine, offering guidance on both local and international experiences. Whether it’s terrestrial wildlife or marine life, our goal is to promote sustainable practices and conservation efforts across all ecosystems.

Join us as we embark on this meaningful journey towards promoting sustainable development and wildlife conservation. Together, let’s make a difference.
